There Is No Where More Important To Be – Than In The Present Moment With Your Kids
There are a lot of life lessons to be learned when we live in the present moment and really enjoy life with our kids in the here and now. Instead of this — Ahhhh ….. all the questions of what, where, when, how, how many, who, etc …. can you relate?
What are we doing this summer? Where will the kids go to summer camp? When is AllStars going to begin and is this the last soccer game? How are we ever going to afford to purchase our kids a car when they turn 15? Can we afford braces? Do you have little Faith, my child? If you pray more than you worry …. you will be taken care of. Faith and Fear cannot live in the same household. You must choose to follow God’s ways and not Satan’s – and anything will be possible for you!!
Can you remember back to when you were pregnant and how much fun it was going to doctors appointments and then you couldn’t wait for your pregnancy to end. Then after delivery, you couldn’t wait for your baby to get off breast milk and start formula and begin crawling. Now it’s time to teach them to walk and talk, get rid of the pacifier. It’s now their first day of kindergarten, middle school and high school graduation day. College graduation, marriage, kids, deaths and some divorce.
Life is way too short for you to continuously live in the future and not focus on the ever present gift of just one day at a time. I learned this valuable lesson when I walked through the doors of AA almost 8 years ago. Please help your children to just focus on this day God has given them because tomorrow isn’t promised. Encourage your kids that all you really have is NOW and you miss the moments when you worry about your future and how you will live it and the outcomes you desire. You can also set them up for frustrations and disappointments if plans get cancelled due to extenuating circumstances.
I know life gets tough and you become worrisome in the face of trials but you will miss the precious moments God sets you up for if you continually worry about what the next thing looks and feels like. When my kids were taken from me – I didn’t know I could live through that horror. My AA sponsor told me that if I didn’t want to drink I had to stay focused on the here and now – not how many drinks I couldn’t have in the future. I don’t know if you can relate …. but if you can’t – try thinking about making your present time a forever memory, not how many you will or won’t remember down the road.
If you will keep putting one foot in front of the other and rely on God’s will for your life – your kids will have the most amazing childhood and feel secure that their future is full of success and happiness. They will have learned valuable lessons they can pass on to others, including their own children. They will be a rock for someone else who has no hope and little faith. They will look up to you for guidance and not be afraid of what could go wrong but have trust of all that will go right.
I know in my heart you will make the best choices your kids deserve and need to know how important the present moment with you is – not what will occur in their future. They shall know God has a plan and it’s a good one for their life. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
